EXPERIENCIA DE SONJA EN PRINCIPIA

UN AÑO EN ANDALUCIA

Las preguntas “quién soy” y “quién quiero ser” volaban como una flecha por mi cabeza a mis sueños y deseos. Quería cambiar mi estilo de vida y trasladarme al extranjero. Tomé una decisión: hacer mi SVE y probar mis límites. La flecha se detuvo en Málaga, en un museo de ciencia. Hice mis maletas hace un año y dejé mi hogar a 3.000km de distancia.

Todavía recuerdo como si fuese ayer cuando Carlos, trabajador del museo, me esperaba en elaeropuerto. Él pasaba frío, con una bufanda y chaqueta gorda, y yo con el calor del sol de Málaga… Y tan perdida… Las naranjas, el sol, el clima ideal durante todo el año, la vida llena de fiestas, las playas, las cañas y los tintos de verano, el vino dulce, el pescaíto frito, el flamenco, las macetas de flores, la lengua española, la ciudad natal de Picasso… me enamoré enseguida de Andalucía, de Málaga y de su ritmo rápido de vida, pero también con parsimonia y su actitud “no pasa nada”, “todo bien” y las siestas. Todo era justo lo contrario de lo que estaba acostumbrada viviendo en Belgrado. Exactamente lo que necesitaba.

PRINCIPIA

¡Un lugar mágico! Mi trabajo consistía en peinar mi pelo con Van de Graaff (un generador cargado a unos 50.000 vatios) y luego mirarme en el caleidoscopio grande, encender las lámparas en la Bobina de Tesla, recoger “el agua del arco iris”, beber cócteles de nitrógeno líquido, producir un fantasma de Newton, jugar al billar, volar con estrellas y constelaciones… Era muy divertido llevar grupos de niños en el museo, enseñándoles los módulos interactivos. Los niños corregían mi español y me ayudaban a ampliar mi vocabulario. Nos hemos reído mucho juntos con mis “juegos de palabras”.

El equipo de Principia era gran parte de la magia. Al principio me comunicaba con las pocas palabras que sabía y más con la comunicación no verbal, así me cogieron cariño. Mis profesores con su gran corazón, paciencia, dedicación y entusiasmo, eran divertidos e inteligentes y me apoyaron mucho para realizar mis ideas y proyectos propios. ¡Mis científicos “locos” preferidos!

LA GENTE

¡Lo mejor de mi SVE! Conocí un montón de gente y, entre ellos, he hecho íntimos amigos. ¡Qué suerte! En primer lugar, mi compañero de trabajo de Rumanía y mis compañeros de piso de otros países, otros voluntarios europeos de Málaga, mi tutora… ¡Mis guapos y Honey-es! Por supuesto, también están mis malagueños preferidos, ¡ellos lo saben! Ahora tengo amigos españoles divertidos, amables, abiertos de mente, educados, y con un gran corazón.

AVENTURA

Durante mi último año aprendí muchísimo. Viajé un montón, asistí a festivales de música, partidos de fútbol y baloncesto, salí de fiesta, fui a ferias, hecho senderismo por el rio, participé en talleres de cocina de otros países europeos, aprendí a llegar tarde… Viví una vida rápida y, como una esponja, absorbí mucho. La “lente” de mis ojos hizo más fotos de las que se pueden guardar en un ordenador. Mis oídos han escuchado historias de todas partes del mundo y más interesantes que las series de Discovery Channel. He conocido más la cultura y el arte de España. La nueva vida en Málaga fue, día tras día, una hiper-realidad.

LUEGO

He aprendido mucho sobre mí misma. Ahora me doy cuenta que la Sonja que quería ser al principio es la Sonja que ahora soy. También valoro más mi cultura, la lengua, las costumbres, porque uno no puede ser consciente de todo eso cuando está rodeado de la gente que conoce desde la infancia. La Sonja que soy ahora y la que fue no se pueden detener aquí… ¡deben subir al escalón y seguir! Hasta la próxima aventura, o lo major – HASTA SIEMPRE, BOQUERONES! <3

 

A YEAR IN ANDALUSIA

Who I was and who I wanted to be was like an «arrow», flying from my head, towards my dreams and wishes. I wanted to change my lifestyle and move abroad. A decision was made – I was going to do a E.V.S. and test my limits. The arrow had stopped itself in Malaga, in a science museum. A year has now passed since I packed my bags and left home to embark on this 3,000km long journey.

It seems as if it were yesterday that I was meeting with Carlos at the airport. He was cold and wearing thick jacket and scarf; while I was hot, heated by Malaga’s sun and very confused. The orange trees, the sun, the ideal climate throughout the whole year, a city full of festivals, beaches, “tinto de verano” and sweet wine, fried fish, flamenco, flower pots, the Spanish language and the birthplace of Picasso. I fell in love with Andalusia at first sight. Malaga has a fast paced lifestyle, yet a relaxed attitude to life, with endearing expressions and customs; «It’s alright», «all good» and the «siesta». It was the complete opposite to what I was used to when living in Belgrade, and exactly what I needed.

PRINCIPIA

A magical place! My work consisted of combing my hair with Van de Graaff generator charged to 50.000V and then looking myself in the large kaleidoscope; lighting the lamps with Tesla Coil; picking up «rainbow water»; drinking Principia’s liquid nitrogen cocktails; producing a ghost of Newton; playing billiard; and flying with stars and constellations. One of my main responsibilities was guiding groups, mostly of children, and explaining the museum’s interactive features was very interesting. The children corrected my Spanish which helped to expand my vocabulary, and we laughed together at my humorous mistakes.

The team of Principia was another part of the magic of my time in Malaga. In the beginning, despite understanding very few words and using a lot of nonverbal communication, they went on to become very dear to me. My professors had big hearts, great patience and dedication, as well as being incredibly enthusiastic, funny and smart. All of whom supported me throughout my experience, allowing me to implement my own ideas and projects. My favorite «crazy scientists»!

THE PEOPLE

The best of my E.V.S. was meeting all of the people, and among them, I have made a few close friends. What a luck! In the first place, my special Romanian friend and colleague, my flatmates, other European volunteers, my mentor, my Guapos and Honeyes! And of course, my favorite Malagueños and they know it. Now, I have many open-minded Spanish friends, who are interesting, friendly, polite and all have big hearts.

ADVENTURE

During the last year, I have learnt a lot, traveled extensively, wisted some of the best music festivals, football and basketball matches, visited «ferias», was walking/hiking along the river and attended cooking workshops of various European delicacies. I quickly learnt how it ́s in the Spanish culture to be late, I was living a fast paced life, and like a sponge, I was absorbing so much. The «lens» of my eyes made more pictures than could be kept in the memory of my PC. My ears have listened to stories from all over the world, much more interesting than serials from the Discovery channel. I have dived deep into Spanish culture and art. My new life in Malaga, day by day, was becoming my surreal reality.

THEN

I learnt a lot about myself. Now I realize, that the Sonja I wanted to be, stands opposite the one I wanted to become. I also value my culture much more; the language and customs. Its not possible to be aware of all this, when surrounded by people you’ve known since childhood. I won’t stop here… I must climb the step above and continue. Thanks for this unforgettable experience! Until the next adventure, <3 YOU, BOQUERONES!
